OCB DRUG TESTING GUIDELINES

OCB DRUG TESTING GUIDELINES

OCB DRUG TESTING GUIDELINES

OCB (Organization of Competition Bodies) is the premier all natural bodybuilding organization dedicated to hosting drug-free bodybuilding competitions. All OCB competitors must be drug free and fully compliant with the WADA Anti-Doping Code for a minimum of seven (7) years prior to competition.

OCB’s multi-layered, stringent drug testing program is designed to protect natural athletes and uphold the integrity of tested natural bodybuilding.

Pre-Competition Drug Test Screenings

All competitors are required to pass a pre-competition drug screening (often referred to as a polygraph exam) before stepping on stage at an OCB event.

  • Screening results from amateur OCB shows may be honored at other amateur OCB events held within three (3) weeks.
  • OCB Pro athletes must undergo pre-competition screenings at every OCB show, regardless of how recently they were last screened or tested.
  • Screenings are $60, payable by the athlete directly to the examiner at the time of testing.

Why OCB Uses Pre-Competition Screenings

Pre-competition screenings are critical because many performance-enhancing drugs are not reliably detectable through urine testing alone. The screening process deters cheaters from entering OCB events and helps identify athletes who may have recently used or attempted to time the use of banned substances. For example, performance enhancing drugs, such as anabolic steroids evade urine detection within a very short period of time. Growth hormone and many other drugs are not easily detected in standard sports panel testing.

  • Urinalysis testing cannot replace or be substituted for pre-competition screenings
  • Urinalysis results cannot overturn a failed screening

Urinalysis Drug Testing

In addition to pre-competition screenings, OCB consistently conducts urinalysis drug testing and provides all tested athletes with their official lab reports as proof of testing.

  • Pro-qualifying placement winners at all amateur OCB events are urine tested.

  • Cash-prize placement winners in all OCB Pro divisions (top 3 winners) are urine tested.

  • Random testing as well as year around off season testing of both amateur and pro athletes.

Drug Testing Transparency

  • Standard urinalysis testing costs are paid for by the OCB and its event promoters.
  • All tested athletes receive their official laboratory results within 4–8 weeks.

Why Providing Lab Reports Matters

Testing athletes is expensive. No organization tests or invests more in drug testing bodybuilding athletes than the OCB, and we are doing it consistently. OCB spends close to $150,000 annually on drug testing to protect athletes from competing against cheaters, and to protect the integrity of our events. Lab reports are your receipts and proof that OCB is upholding its responsibility to the natural bodybuilding community.

When an athlete competes in a “tested show” where a sample is collected, but an official lab report is not received, it is very likely that the samples were never sent to the lab to spare the expense of testing.

Anti-Doping Guidelines

All OCB competitors must be drug free and fully compliant with the WADA Anti-Doping Code for a minimum of seven (7) years prior to competition. Before entering an OCB competition,  review the WADA banned substance list below and read the OCB Drug Testing Guidelines in its entirety to determine your eligibility.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

MEDICAL EXEMPTION REQUESTS

Athletes, like all others, may have illnesses or conditions that require them to take particular medications. If the medication an athlete is required to take to treat an illness or condition happens to fall under the WADA prohibited list, a therapeutic use exemption may give that athlete the authorization to take the needed medicine.

NOTE: Requests for an exemption must be submitted at least 10 days prior to competition. A request for an exemption does not equate to approval.

CRITERIA FOR AN EXEMPTION ARE:

1. The athlete would experience significant health problems without taking the prohibited substance or method.
2. The therapeutic use of the substance would not produce significant enhancement of performance.
3. There is no reasonable therapeutic alternative to the use of the otherwise prohibited substance or method.

NOTE: Any prescribed substance MUST also be FDA approved for treatment in order for a waiver to be granted. It is up to the user to verify FDA approval prior to taking any substance for treatment purposes.

Persons (male or female) using testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) are NOT eligible for OCB competitions. Supplementing with prescribed testosterone in any form to raise testosterone levels due to natural decreases that occur with aging (even if to elevate levels to be within ‘normal’ ranges), is NOT considered a medicinal exception for competition and will NOT be approved.

Estrogen and Progesterone are permitted only for female competitors. Testosterone waivers for females undergoing menopause related symptoms will not be accepted.

DRUG TEST LAB REPORTS

  • OCB consistently supplies tested athletes with their official lab reports as evidence that drug testing was conducted and as proof of a passing or failing result.
  • Lab results from samples taken on the day of the event (or when a random test was conducted) are the only results admissible when determining if an athlete has passed or failed. Urine or blood tests conducted independently of the OCB are inadmissible and will not be considered when determining an outcome.
  • Testosterone/Epitestosterone (T/E) Ratios are determined using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) equipment. Urine specimens in excess of a 6:1 ratio are immediately red flagged and ruled as a failure. In the event of elevated T/E results (which can occur naturally in a very small percentage of the population), further testing can be done via IRMS/CIR to determine if exogenous testosterone is present in the sample. IRMS testing is conducted at the athlete’s expense at a WADA accredited lab. If the athlete declines to pursue IRMS testing, they accept their T/E drug test failure. There are no refunds for IRMS testing, regardless of the outcome of the test.
